Husbandry Services

UAC Husbandry Services provides feed, water, and clean cages for the wide variety of animal species used in research; commonly rodents but also pigs, primates, fish, frogs, and others. They monitor animal room environmental conditions; disinfect animal rooms; report animal injury, disease, or abnormal behavior; and administer medical treatment according to prescribed instructions from veterinarians or animal health technicians. They receive all animals into the centralized animal facilities, ensuring the incoming animals match order specifications and are placed in the designated animal holding rooms. They also maintain breeding colonies, assist investigators with research procedures, and work with animals exposed to biological, chemical, or radiation hazards. UAC Cage Wash Services staff sanitize, sterilize, and prepare cages and equipment used to house or transport animals. These individuals are also trained in caring for the animals directly.
